After filing for divorce eight years ago, Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez have reached a divorce settlement. Maceo, their 9-year-old son, will have joint legal and physical guardianship under the terms of the settlement. Berry will pay Martinez $8,000 per month in child support in addition to 4.3% of her income above $2 million.
Berry and Martinez were introduced in 2010 and wed in 2013. Maceo was born in 2013. The couple divorced in 2016 after separating in 2015. According to reports, the divorce proceedings were lengthy and contentious, but the couple was able to reach an agreement with which they were both satisfied.
The settlement stipulates that Berry will have primary physical guardianship of Maceo. Every other weekend and one weeknight a week, Martinez will have visitation rights. Additionally, Berry will cover Maceo’s private school tuition, extracurricular activities, and health insurance premiums.
The 4.3% of Berry’s income that Martinez will receive is referred to as “recapture alimony.” This form of alimony is intended to prevent the lower-earning spouse from experiencing a significant decline in standard of living following the divorce. In this instance, Martinez is the spouse with the lesser income.
Berry is a successful actress who has appeared in films like “Monster’s Ball,” “Catwoman,” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Martinez is a French actor whose film credits include “Transporter 2” and “Unleashed.”
Berry and Martinez have both expressed a desire to put their divorce behind them and concentrate on co-parenting their son, Maceo. They issued a joint statement which read, “We are committed to working together as parents to raise our son with love and respect.”
The divorce agreement is a step in the right direction for Berry and Martinez. It permits them to proceed forward with their lives and concentrate on their son. It also serves as a reminder that even when celebrities divorce, their primary role is as parents.
