The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to terms with Shareef O’Neal and Scottie Pippen Jr. over two-way contracts with the players. After going undrafted in the NBA Draft the previous night, both players signed their contracts the next day on Thursday.

O’Neal, who is 22 years old, is the eldest son of basketball icon Shaquille O’Neal, and Pippen Jr. is the son of Scottie Pippen, who won the NBA championship six times over. O’Neal and Pippen Jr. both celebrated their new contracts by posting celebratory messages on their respective social media accounts.

O’Neal thanked the Lakers organisation in a flashback video in which he wore a Lakers jersey and expressed his appreciation to the team. He concluded his letter with the phrase “Thank you for this opportunity.” In 2013, the Lakers organisation decided to retire the historic jersey that his father had worn.

As for Pippen Jr., he posted an image of the phrase “Dreams come true” alongside an emoji of hands clasped in prayer. “Let’s get to work.”

O’Neal, who is 6 feet 10 inches tall, participated in college basketball for both UCLA and LSU. He disclosed earlier in the week that his father would have liked it if he continued his education instead of entering the draught this year.
He told me that his father had hoped that I would continue my education. “He is aware that I am now working out with teams. But I’m not going to lie to you; we haven’t really discussed this at all. I feel like I’m just kind of going through the motions.”

Pippen Jr. spent the previous three years playing basketball for Vanderbilt. During his senior year at college, he recorded a scoring average of 20.4 points per game.
