After 18 years of marriage, Kevin Costner continues to refer to Whitney Houston as his “life’s love.”
By 1990, singer, actress, and model Whitney Houston was a global superstar. Fans and critics dubbed her “The Voice” due to her series of successful albums. It made logical for her to attempt acting, and The Bodyguard was the ideal film for her. It was composed for Diana Ross in the 1970s but drifted around for decades before Houston was cast as the lead.
Despite becoming one of Houston’s largest projects to date, she first declined. She did not want to begin her acting career with a starring role because she feared that people would “hound” her before she was cast. Kevin Costner was previously contracted to the project, but he refused to star alongside anyone other than Whitney.
Reportedly, he waited a year for her to accept the part before calling her and promising to help her through it. Costner stated at the time, “We delayed the film a year in order to wait for Whitney.” Whitney possesses an unusual quality, and men adore her for this reason.
Whitney has indicated that his desire for her to play the role was the primary factor that drew her to the film. “I received information that he wanted me to direct this film and did not want anyone else to do it. This piqued my interest; I wondered, “Why can’t anyone else make this film?” “Costner has claimed to being very fond of Houston prior to filming and falling in love with her throughout the production of the film. Their chemistry was evident on-screen, and they became incredibly close friends after the film. He sent her numerous letters and spoke at her funeral.
Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner have been married for eighteen years.
Kevin Costner was already married at the time he filmed The Bodyguard, despite having clear and obvious feelings for Houston. Cindy Costner was his wife prior to his breakthrough in “Dances With Wolves.” Cindy also performed and starred in “Wolves,” but never at the same level as her husband.
They were a 16-year married couple with three children. However, Kevin could not handle his newfound celebrity well and began to alter as his career took off. Cindy accused him of infidelity and disapproved of his preoccupation with Houston. Reportedly, Costner was over over heals for Houston at the time, and it was evident on and off set.
