After becoming a Christian, Snoop Dogg (Calvin Broadus Jr.) sparked a stir in Hollywood. His debut gospel CD, “Book of Love,” was published lately.
Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters, Pastor John P. Kee, and Marvin Sapp are among the gospel artists on the CD.
“I’m working on a Christian album,” he told Beats 1 Radio. I must act now.”
He added: “It’s always been on my heart. I was too busy conducting gangster business to do it. But it’s been on my heart too long.”
Several have criticized his religious change and gospel record. He joined the Nation of Islam in 2009 and Rastafarianism in 2012. He’s a born-again Christian now.
Snoop has discussed Christianity before. He sang “I’d Rather Have Jesus” in a 2016 Instagram video.
His trust in God pleased his fans. “Imagine how many people you will reach with the gospel of Salvation with your platform! Come on! “Give our heavenly Father glory with your rap abilities Snoop!” an admirer remarked.
Snoop Dogg addressed his detractors at the 33rd Annual Stellar Awards in Las Vegas. “The devil is a liar,” he remarked after performing at the gospel music event. I thought the church accepted sinners.”
“A saint-filled church would be wrong. If you see someone attempting to return home, it’s natural to be friendly, open your arms, and say, “Brother, we embrace you for who you are and what you’re going through.” Bring yourself. We realize you’ve done wrong and want to become right, so we’ll help you.”
We won’t stone you if you’re trying to get right and return to church. That’s driving folks out of church right now.”
The rapper says he has never been confronted by anyone in the gospel realm.
Snoop asks, “What about you?” Checked your status? Will you reach heaven? Why am I judged? What have you done for God?”
The album has a lot of Christian theology that shows his religious journey. The album is a moving account of Snoop’s meeting with God’s love.
Mai Perkins wrote: “He’s not selling prosperity Gospel. Given his past, he doesn’t shame others. He’s been outside! He shares his relevant experiences as a terribly broken character who loves God. He also creates an atmosphere where others can do the same.”
From gangsters to guns, religion has changed Snoop’s life. Snoop said religion impacted his view of women. His songs used to demean women.
“Because I was doing music for me,” he said. “My music represented that until I wanted to demonstrate love and gratitude for the woman.”
“No Guns Allowed” features Snoop’s daughter Cori B.
