Toby Keith’s health news saddened fans. The fan favourite recently revealed that he is ill.

The Oklahoma-born musician revealed that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in fall 2021 and has been treated since.

Keith described the event on social media. “I’ve had chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery for six months,” he said. Good. I need to breathe, recover, and relax.”

Toby thanked fans despite his health issues. “I’m excited to see my family,” he said. I’ll see fans soon. Excited. -T.”

Keith’s remaining performances this year were unclear. His website says his next concert will be in Wheaton, Illinois, on June 17.

After taking a break from touring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he released “Peso in my Pocket” last year, the site reported.

PEOPLE interviewed him about his album. Running inspired Keith’s album songs. He said, “I’d look at the song ideas I had in my phone before I started running, and then I would take off.

I’d be working on the songs until my time was up. I’d get home, turn on my phone’s recorder, and write down what I got.

“It was a great time to write,” he said.

After Keith’s announcement, the Ohio State Fair postponed the July 28 Columbus show.

“But I’m not sure how many at this point,” Keith’s publicist Elaine Schock said of tour cancellations.
