Angela Bassett will be one of four people to receive honorary Oscars during the 14th Governors Awards ceremony, which will take place on November 19, 2023, according to an announcement made today by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
This distinction will be bestowed upon Bassett in recognition of her “transcendent performances that set new standards in acting.” Bassett has been nominated for two Academy Awards. Her most recent nomination for an Academy Award came in 2022 for her performance as Queen Ramonda in the film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Mel Brooks, Carol Littleton (who was an editor), and Michelle Satter (who will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award) are the three other people to receive honorary Oscars this year.
Bassett is an accomplished actress who has been working in the business for a very long time. She has had starring roles in a number of movies, including “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Boyz n the Hood,” “Malcolm X,” and “Waiting to Exhale.” In addition, she has had guest appearances on a number of other television shows, such as “American Horror Story” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
The honorary Oscar that Bassett was awarded is recognition that has been long overdue for both her ability and the achievements that she has made to the film industry. She is a true icon, and the body of work that she has created will continue to motivate people for many years to come.
Bassett said in a statement that she was “humbled and honored” to accept the award, and she used the phrase “humbled.” “I’ve been very fortunate to have a long career in film and television,” she remarked. “It’s been very rewarding.” “The many talented people I’ve worked with over the years helped me earn this award, and I’m grateful to them for their support.”
The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California will serve as the location for the 14th annual Governors Awards ceremony. Tracee Ellis Ross will act as the master of ceremonies for the event.
