I Took My Son to Visit My Boyfriend’s Parents — I Couldn’t Believe What He Found in My Boyfriend’s Old Room

With her new boyfriend, Jake, single mother Mia felt optimism at last. It seemed perfect, spending a weekend at his boyhood beach cottage. However, their idyllic getaway takes a terrifying turn when her son Luke finds a hidden box full of bones.

One sunny afternoon, I called out, “Hey, Luke-a-doodle,” discovering him absorbed in an especially complex Lego construction. “What would you say to meeting someone special for lunch this weekend?”

With a playful twinkle in his eyes, Luke raised his gaze. “Hey, special huh? Something like a birthday cake or superhero special?”

“More like friend special,” I hesitantly said. “His name is Jake, and he’s a teacher too, just like me.”

“Yeah, I can build spaceships and T-Rexes!”

“Awesome!” Jake cried out. “Perhaps you might give me a few tips at some point? Anything more intricate than a basic tower is pretty much beyond my capabilities.”

That was the solution. Luke’s pride protruded from his chest.

For the remainder of the afternoon, Jake’s (obviously poor) attempts to imitate Luke’s sculptures were interspersed with information about dinosaurs and Lego construction advice.
