Will Smith proposed to Jada Pinkett Smith before they were married, but Jada Pinkett Smith didn’t even think about having a wedding in her head at the time. During an appearance on Red Table Talk, Jada stated, “I was under so much pressure, you know, being a young actress, being young, and I was just, like, pregnant and I just didn’t know what to do.” “I was under so much pressure, you know, being a young actress, being young.”
She finally came clean and admitted, “I never wanted to be married.”
Pinkett Smith repeated that she “really didn’t want to get married” as she sat between her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, her daughter Willow, and her husband Will Smith. Will Smith laughed and said, “The only reason we got married was because Gammy (Banfield-Norris) was crying.” According to Pinkett Smith, “It was almost as if Gammy was like, ‘You have to get married, so let’s talk about the wedding.'” After that, Jada’s mother came clean and stated, “I remember feeling really passionately and wanted you guys to be married.”
“I do remember [wanting you and Will to be married], but I don’t recall you rejecting the concept of marriage,” she continued. “I do remember wanting you and Will to get married.” “I recall that the concept of having a wedding was shot down, but not the idea of getting married.” Banfield-Norris admitted that the wedding was a terrible experience. “It was a total shambles. Due of her illness, Jada was acting very disagreeable… She did not participate in any of the activities.
