Michael Jordan, the GOAT of basketball, gave $10 million to Make A Wish, setting another record.
He donated the most to the organisation in its 43-year history before reaching 60.
Introducing Michael Jordan
MJ, a former NBA player and entrepreneur, is Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Born February 17, 1963.
According to his bio on the NBA website, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever. He won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls in 15 seasons.
Jordan owns and chairs 23XI Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series and the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. He helped expand the NBA and popularise basketball worldwide in the 1980s and 1990s.
Jordan hopes his donation will inspire people to support Make A Wish, a foundation that grants children with life-threatening illnesses “wishes” on their birthdays on February 17. Disney World and meeting Jordan are popular with kids.
Since joining the Chicago Bulls in 1984, Jordan has granted hundreds of wishes. He remains one of the most requested celebrities, according to the organisation.
“Over the past 34 years, it has been a pleasure to work with Make A Wish and contribute to the happiness and happiness of so many children,” Jordan said. “Their bravery and tenacity during such a difficult time has been inspiring. I can’t think of a better birthday present than having people support Make A Wish so every child can experience the wonder of having their wish fulfilled.
His 2000 wish for an 11-year-old was legendary. Katie had to give up her basketball career after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. After meeting Jordan through Make A Wish, her love for sports returned.
Katie continued, “Imagining [seeing Michael] helped me get through all my treatments. It inspired fresh thoughts and dreams.
She survived her brain tumour and worked five years at Make A Wish Mid-Atlantic.
Jordan’s donation will grant Make A Wish wishes. Jordan’s multi-year donations to nonprofits like the Boys and Girls Club, where he is a student, often make headlines.
Jordan, a North Carolina native and Charlotte Hornets owner, committed $10 million in 2021 to open two new medical facilities in the state, according to Novant Health.
Despite donating $10 million and having hundreds of wishes fulfilled, Jordan is not Make A Wish’s top donor.
Since 2002, actor and professional wrestler John Cena has granted 650 wishes and been awarded by Guinness World Records. 400 desires are the most.
