The film, which chronicles Michael Jackson’s ascent to popularity both as a solo performer and as a member of the Jackson 5, will feature a significant role for the record label. Playing Gordy, the Motown mogul who brought together groups like the Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight & the Pips, and Diana Ross & the Supremes, is “Power” star Tate (who, coincidentally, played Quincy Jones, the producer of “Thriller” in 2004’s “Ray”).
As lead vocalist of the hit band and a major influence on Michael Jackson throughout his life, Ross was asked to publicly present the Jackson 5 to the world. Graham (“Love in the Villa,” Tyler Perry’s upcoming “Black, White & Blue”) plays Ross.

The movie “Michael,” directed by Antoine Fuqua, is now in development and has a large cast of fresh actors. Nine-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi will portray the King of Pop from his early days in the Jackson 5, and Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson will play his uncle for the first time in the film.

On April 18, 2025, the film, which is produced by Graham King of GK Films (“Bohemian Rhapsody”), will open in theatres. The story’s author, John Logan, is up for three Oscars. To support his brothers, Prince Jackson, Jackson’s eldest son, is helping the directors and actors on site.
King commented in a news release, “I’m thrilled that we were able to get such a great group of actors to work on this.” “What they bring to these significant roles adds to the incredible ensemble and gives the movie a rich background.”
