The completion of a child’s education is one of the most important landmarks in that child’s life, as it is one of the primary factors that will determine the course of that child’s future. Yet, the United Nations estimates that around 59 million children of primary school age are not enrolled in any form of formal education. One of the most prevalent reasons for this is poverty. There are a lot of children in the globe who are forced to work instead of attending to school so that they can provide for their family, collect water, or look after their younger siblings.
A Cambodian educator just recently published some images of a homemade backpack that a parent made for his child because the parent did not have the financial means to purchase one.
It is possible for a child to be dissuaded from pursuing an education if their family is unable to provide them with even the most fundamental necessities, such as the school supplies that the majority of us take for granted.
The young boy’s name is Ny Keng, and he is 5 years old. At the time, he is a student at Lumphat Primary School, where he is enrolled in the first grade. His instructor, Suon, mentioned to the press that Keng’s mother brings him to kindergarten on a daily basis.
According to Suon, one of her students shared with her that he had recently returned from Thailand, which is where his father maintains a career. Keng also mentioned to her that his father had crafted the bag for him because Keng did not have the money to purchase a new one for his son.
His father took the remaining pieces of raffia string and wove them together to create a lovely blue bag for him. As Suon uploaded the footage of him carrying his schoolbag, they soon gained widespread attention. Many were blown away by the dedication and creativity of the father. The instructor told the student’s father, “People said it was wonderful, sensitive, cool, and imaginative, love this bag.”
Kindhearted folks saw this as an opportunity to lend their support to the family who was going through a difficult time. Suon stated, “A few international students have asked for his contact information so that he can give them back their bags, and the head of my school has already provided it to them.”
There was not a single person who did not like the woven backpack, and they even pushed the father to begin a small business selling these bags to hipsters. There was not a single person who did not love the woven backpack.
