Living in an old house means accepting quirks, but not a full-blown spider attraction in every room.

After every natural remedy failed, the Vicks experiment began with a mix of skepticism and hope.

A thin smear along window sills, baseboards, and favorite spider hideouts filled the air with a sharp, medicinal scent that felt more like a sick day than pest control.

Yet over the next few days, the webs slowed, then nearly stopped.

Maybe it was the menthol and eucalyptus disrupting their senses, or maybe the spiders simply chose easier territory.

Paired with sealing gaps, decluttering, and using other gentle repellents like peppermint or cedar, the house slowly shifted from haunted to habitable.

There were still a few eight-legged stragglers, but no longer a daily siege.

In an old, imperfect home, that small, hard-won peace felt less like a hack and more like taking back ownership of the space.
