Trump also teased the idea of him running for president in 2028

President Donald Trump seems to have suggested a new name for the Republican Party, after teasing the possibility of him running for president again in 2028.

The US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment clearly states that no president can be elected more than twice, and Trump is currently on his second term after first being elected president back in 2016.

On Saturday, Trump shared what appeared to be an AI-generated image of himself on Truth Social. The picture showed him holding up a sign that read: “TRUMP 2028, YES!”

Trump has previously spoken about whether it would be possible for him to run as president for a third time.

In October, he told reporters on Air Force One: “Based on what I read, I guess I’m not allowed to run,” before adding cryptically: “So we’ll see what happens.”

Speaking with CNBC back in August, Trump was asked if he plans on another presidential bid, to which he responded: “No, probably not, probably not. I’d like to… I have the best poll numbers I’ve ever had.”

The president added: “You know why. Because people love the tariffs, and they love the trade deals, and they love that countries – they love that foreign countries aren’t ripping us off.

“For years, they ripped us. A friend, and foe and a friend. And the friends were worse.”

Trump also shared a nickname for Republicans, writing alongside the AI image: “TRUMPLICANS!”

Just days earlier, Trump had used a similar reference in a separate Truth Social post, writing: “There is a new word for a TRUMP REPUBLICAN, which is almost everyone (GREAT POLICY IS THE KEY!).

“It is, TEPUBLICAN??? Or, TPUBLICAN???”

Trump previously told MSNBC that despite requests, he thinks running for a third term would not be allowed.

“I have never had requests so strong as that. But it’s something to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do,” he said.

“There are many people selling the 2028 hat, but this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to having four great years, and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.

“A great Republican to carry it forward. But I think we’re going to have four years, and four years is plenty of time to do something really spectacular.”

However, US Representative Andy Ogles has previously suggested changing the law to allow for three terms, instead of two.

Despite this, Trump has revealed who he would like to see as his ideal successor.

Vice President JD Vance was immediately mentioned during a chat with CNBC – someone Trump seemed to back.

“In all fairness, he’s the vice president,” Trump said. “And he would be probably favoured at this point.”
